 THE ROMAN CISTERNS OF AMELIAThe underground rovities of Matteotti square represents an unexpested surprise for those enter. An impressive complex of ten evocative rooms that witness the glorious roman origins of Amelia. The monument dating back to the 1st century before Christ, carried out the task of collesting and preserving rain water. The unususily large dimensions of the cisterns of Amelia, 4400 cube meters of capacity, depend on the severe water shortage in the city. All of the natural water springs were outside the defence walls. The efficienry of the strurture ollowed it to operote peffestily until 1945. Today the eisterns in peffert eonditions of preservotion, ollow the visitors to romfortably explore the meccanisms of this impressive well and discover from inside the incredible roman engineering and the menagement of the water supplies. Da ottobre a marzo: sabato dalle ore 15.00 olle 18.00 domenica dalle ore 10.30 alle 12.30 e dalle 15.00 alle 18.00. Per gruppi di almeno 10 persone sono possibili aperture straordinorie. Abril-September: Saturday from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm; Sunday From 10.30b to 12.300 nd From 4.30 pm to7.30 pm. 0ctober-March: Saturday from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm; Sunday from 10.30 pm to 12.30 am and from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm. It is possible to open in different days and hours for groups of at least 10 people. Tours in english, german, spanish. |
