SORIANO NEL CIMINO
Few towns can boast such a fine position, both on a geographic and on a climatic viewpoint. About the year 300 A.D., Eutizio from Ferenato started to spread Christianity preaching in the lands ruled by the Romans, and was therefore martyrized and buried into a catacomb he had dug, on a site where a sanctuary dedicated to him was erected.
Pope Niccolò III Orsini, elected during the second-last conclave held in Viterbo, had an imposing castle built here, where he died in 1280.
The village has then lived under several rules: the Colonnas, the Borgias, the Della Roveres, the Caraffas and the Madruccios, who ordered the construction of the most important monument, the Papacqua Fountain, and the first wing of the XVI century palace that was named after the Albani family, that accomplished it in 1715.

S. Nicola Collegiate church, XVIII century, with interesting works inside, including a late-Gothic statuette portraying St.Anthony and a marvellous Fifteenth-century tryptic depicting the blessing Saviour.
Sanctuary of S.Eutizio, erected on a pre-existent Romanesque building. It houses very interesting works, including a silver bust, portraying St.Eutizio, and a XVII-century wood crucifix.
Church of St.Augustin, XVIII century, where a XIV-century tablet portraying the Virgin Mary with Infant Jesus is kept.
Church of St.George, dating back to the Roman time, is one of the most significant monuments from the historical viewpoint.
Church of S.Maria del Poggio, XVII century, with a valuable Baroque wood altar.
Church of Trinity, XVIII century, has an aisless interior with the form of a Latin cross, housing a valuable XIV century tablet from Sienese school, portraying the Virgin Mary with Infant Jesus.

Palazzo Chigi Albani and Papacqua Fountain; the palace was started in the XVI century and enlarged in the XVIII century.
The Papacqua Fountain dates back to the XV century, it is a sculptured monument unequalled in the world, an exuberant sculpture almost totally made by carving the pre-existent rocks, partly depicting queer and mythological figures.
